| ...Continued from page 4 Tips for non-recent IMGs Factors important to medical residency program directors and their interview criteria: In an article presented at 2002 NRSA Trainees Research Conference[1], the presenters had surveyed Family Practice Program directors and this is what they found for Criteria for interview: · Passing USMLE scores (92%) · Letters of recommendation from a U.S. experience (64%) · No multiple attempts on USMLE (63%) · Current observer experience in U.S. (55%) · USMLE scores above 80% (46%) · Current residency experience in U.S.(40%) In another article titled "Factors Influencing Internal Medicine Program Directors' Decisions about Applicants" in Academic Medicine[2] the authors say program directors rated the following items as highly or moderately useful for interview decisions: · USMLE scores (94%), · Dean's letters (87%), · Transcripts and application forms (85%), · Chairman's letters (79%), and · Personal statements (61%).
